Updates

I got an email from a lit agent telling me I should join some writing groups. He's the first one to actually tell me something I can do to improve my writing! I'll happily do that, and I'll also stop sending out queries until I edit it, yet again...I sent out one that I didn't have anything attached to, because they said they didn't want anything attached to it...I wonder if I can get it edited before they respond, if they even want to see it.

Also, in the actual WRITING department of being a future author, I have been working on my new story. I wrote more than 2k today, which is what I used to write every day for my first book, so I'm happy! Plus, this story isn't going to be a full length book. If I wrote 2k every day, I think I could get it finished by the end of the month. But, since I'll probably edit mine instead, I may take a longer time to finish it. I dont' know how long it's going to be. It'll be anywhere from 20k to 40k words I think. Depending on the length, I'll write a few more stories and then have a short story collection. I think it's going to be closer to 20k, but this is only the first draft, and I must say...it's not amazing. I would be mortified if it got published.

So, I must go, because it's almost 2 in the morning, I really want to open up my book now and edit it all night long, but I think I'm going to turn off my laptop and try to get some sleep. operative word being TRY. I'll let myself start working if I'm up at 3...yah that'll work!

Ideas, Ideas, Ideas

So, some of you may know I'm bad at having one idea and sticking to it--which is extremely helpful. I've had plenty of ideas and I'm currently writing 2 or 3 different ones...at once. But right NOW, I'm playing sims. I got a laptop, which will help since I can work anywhere, and almost all of my documents are on here, thankfully! a few, sadly, aren't on here yet...I must go now, but I'll talk later!

Another Update

sooo...my foot has been broken for about a month, give or take 3 or so days...I got out of gym until the end of the year! I'm still being extremely impatient, but I'm better at not getting all hyped up every week day, hoping that I'll get an offer. someone said something about having someone who helps him out look at my book, the part I gave him, and then I kinda hope that I get an offer from him!! I'm giving it til my foot heals, then I'll start sending out more queries. I'm hoping before I can get there I'll get that offer...

I broke my foot on Thursday, and now I have to wait another 2 whole weeks before I can walk on it again. In my author world, the news is that I've started working on a new story. I think right now I'm sort of writing a reallyreallyreally detailed rough draft/plan type thing. It's not a really well written piece, I wouldn't expect it to get published. Thankfully, all I care about is getting it written right now. I have a lot of editing to do for it, once I finish! It's already got to a pretty good part and it's just a few thousand words long, about 14 pages.

First time I've ever really wanted a holiday to end....

What is true. this is the first time I've EVER been so anxious for Easter to end. I want to get to Monday so my queries will be looked at so I can possibly get a lit agent!

Lit Agent Update

So...I got another rejection.
Thankfully, THIS one was more helpful than the others. She told me that she liked the idea, but it didn't pull her in enough at the beginning. I think in my next queries, (I'll probably make them on Monday, after school) I'll explain more so HOW the novel starts. starting and ending novels are the hardest thing for me, figuring out how to make the VERY beginning interesting enough that the reader will read more. And then the end...I need to work on making it seem less...boring.

Now the Wait....

So Now that I have sent out 13 queries, I've decided to wait until they all reply in some way before I continue. So far I have 3 replies, all rejections. that's okay though, because they're one more person checked off on my list of options. I hope that someone decides to take my book! If not, I may just work on another book and put THIS book on some website somewhere. Oh well! I'll just look on the bright side and say that I'm going to get a lit agent!

queries

I sent out 13 queries so far. I got 1 rejection, and nothing else yet. I kinda did some stupid things at the beginning so I hope it won't affect me too much...or that one of my later people decide to be my agent.

I got into a certain query writing type. I have written 5 and sent them out so far.

Important step complete

I recently finished editing(last night), and I was THINKING of adding something else...but as I plan this thing, it just seems like it's going to be bad if I add it in. So, instead of doing that, I'm going to go to the next hugely important part of the process...working on queries(which is what you call the letter you send to literary agents, if you don't know that) and for me to send those out. I can't wait!

Telling you how far I am along tonight...

Alright, I'm on page 47 of the printed out copy and I'm insanely happy with the story as of right now. I've got less than 40 pages left to edit so if I edit 10 pages each day of spring break I'll still finish before April, but I'll probably end up editing some of it over this school week, if I have time. I wish I had no school tomorrow...I would keep going and probably finish it by 6 this morning...stupid school...I need to go take a shower then lay in bed and try to get some sleep so I can wake up in the morning...(possibly early so I can get a page or so more done...heehee).

Halfway through!!

So I'm officially done with the 42nd page, and I have 84 pages total. I'm done with half of it! yaaay! when I get to 63(3/4ths done with editing the book) I'll be bouncing with joy. For now though, I'll just continue to try to get as far as possible before 10. I've finished over 6 pages today so far...I can't remember how many exactly...but I hope to be done with chapter 7 by tonight...maybe chapter 8 too.

editing again, finally.

So after taking another too-long break, I started editing today again. I've editing 3 pages so far, and I want to edit another 5 pages today. If I did, I'd be halfway through the original copy I'm editing off of. I'm ALMOST there! I think if I did that, and I worked hard to edit a lot each day over spring break next week, or at least for the first few days, I MAY be able to finish it by the end of March! It's a stretch, but if I can get 5 more pages done today then why not?

Sadness

Sadly, as my title states, I will not be able to edit much this March at all, not even 3 pages a day, so I shouldn't make my goal to be the end of March. You see, I get home around 5:30-6:30 and I'm usually in bed quite early or I just fall asleep. I get up early to do hw. So, I can't do much with my book until April, but I'll get it done by the end of April!

So I kind of accidentally took an editing break...and it's 5:40 now where I am so I only have a little more than 4 hours til I have to get off my computer. I'll probably just finish my homework and everything first so that I can have less to worry about when I'm editing. I have a new method, that when I am editing, I have it unclipped, with what I finished editing on the left upside down and what still needs to be edited right side up, in nice and neat piles. When I'm not editing I clip them together separately. It makes it much easier. I'm going to make a new goal for myself since obviously I couldn't make the last one. I want to finish editing it by the end of March. if I start editing it a lot like I WANT to then I'll be able to do it. If I edit about 3 pages per day, including today, I should finish it at the end of March. Now that I know that, I'll try to do it, since 3 pages is DEFINITELY a small enough number. I'm going to go now, bye!

Editing...agaaain

Well, I didn't get a chance to edit my book yesterday. If I want to get to my goal for the week, I have to edit 10 pages in 2 days. Uh-oh. Thankfully, Tech got canceled today, and I had almost no homework!! I'll be spending hours editing the book, and maybe I'll get it so that I can be AHEAD of the schedule! If I get myself ahead enough, maybe 2 or 3 days ahead, I'll be able to finish it in 2 weeks! That'd rock, considering the sooner I finish this the sooner I can get started on the next part, and I really want to start sending out queries by the end of summer this year! That would rock! I'm getting really excited now!!!

More About Editing

I forgot to edit at all yesterday, but I just did three pages today, and I figured out that if I just edit 4 pages for the rest of the week I'll be on track. I'm doing well, but now the amount of pages isn't adding up as fast as before...I've only added 3 pages total from the beginning to page 24. Sadly, I don't have time to keep writing. I need to do my homework and then if I finish before 9, I can come back on and do another page, because at 9 I'm gonna go watch a show. For now, I say adios so I can do my hw! Adios!

Second Day of Editing

So today is the last day of freedom before a long drought of extra days off at school. If I keep up on my plan then I'll have it finished before the month is over. Actually, it'll be over about halfway through March. I am up to 20 so far today, and I know that if I edit 3 pages a day every day this school week I can be on track at the end. But I might keep editing today or edit more than 3 pages a day. I then have a lot of work to do after that...I'm adding a new part to the book, so I have to write it and have my friend edit THAT, and then I have to go through and edit what she edited in the new part, and then have another friend edit the whole thing, before I finally go through and edit it all, yet again. then maybe I'll be able to send it off...I may just skip a step or two, but for now, I'll go.

How the first rewriting day for me went:

So, I finished editing chapter 1, and the first 10 pages of the copy I'm editing it off of. Tomorrow I'll either edit to page 15 or 20. If I edited it to page 20 then I could afford to only do 3 pages a day during this week, and be on track at the end of the week! 3 pages would probably only take an hour or 2 anyway, and I will totally be able to do that! OR I could try as hard as I can to get as far as I can and then maybe finish it in a little over a week. I may not be done for the night, but if I edit any more I may not have time to tell you. I ALSO wanted to say that every 5 or so pages in the original adds a page or more to the total, and about 1k words! That means that it may be to almost 100k total pages!!!

Next Stage, here I come!

So, the last time I blogged to you was over a month ago. Now, though, I'm back! My friend and I hung out yesterday, one of the ones editing it, and she gave me the book, all edited. I'm working on it now, and it's added over 1k words and over a page, and I'm only editing the 4th page! when I finished editing the third page of the original, the new copy was at the end of the 4th page! I can't wait to finish this! It may take a while, since starting Monday I won't have ANY extra days off, but I'll make my week-day goal into adding 1k words or boosting the page number up by at least 1. weekends, I'll just work as much as I can. when I stop for the day, I'll blog how many pages have been added. I'll probably do this daily, and if not that, hopefully at least weekly, if I remember to! I put in the number and I found out that if I edit 5 pages every day(almost there already for today) I'll be done in 17 days! of course, I'll do more than just that most days...gotta go now, bye!

New year...a long time ago...and continued waiting.

Happy superlate new year! On book news, there's none. My friends and mom are reading it, but it isn't #1 priority with school/work and all. I'm editing my own printed-out copy as well, so when all of those come together I'll finally be able to edit it yet again. Then I get to edit it again, then maybe one more time through before I finally send it off to probably 30 different agents at once. Whew...that's a lot. If my mom, friends, and I finish editing by mid-February I should be able to re-edit it and review by summer. It'd be cool to get it out there sooner though. No complaints if they all finish their editing by the end of this month and if I get a huge editing-rush and am able to finish it completely by the end of February. Same if I get it completely published by August. But that probably won't happen. It'd be fun though! I'm gonna go now, bye!
